What is the difference between cosmetic and reconstructive surgery?
Cosmetic surgery is performed to reshape normal structures of the body in order to improve the patient's appearance and self-esteem. Cosmetic surgery is usually not covered by health insurance because it is elective.
Reconstructive surgery is performed on abnormal structures of the body, caused
by congenital defects, developmental abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors
or disease. It is generally performed to improve function, but may also be done
to approximate a normal appearance. Reconstructive surgery is generally covered
by most health insurance policies although coverage for specific procedures and
levels of coverage may vary greatly.
How does smoking affect Plastic Surgery?
The belly, that part of the body that contains all of the structures between the chest and the pelvis. The abdomen is separated anatomically from the chest by the diaphragm, the powerful muscle spanning the body cavity below the lungs.
Am I a good candidate for plastic surgery?
An RTH physician will spend time with you discussing your wishes and desires. He will work with you to determine whether you are a good candidate for the procedure or treatment you have chosen. In the interest of the patient’s safety and well-being we may decide not to treat a particular patient that has been determined not to be a good candidate for a specific procedure or treatment.
How do I choose a plastic surgeon?
Choosing a plastic surgeon is an important decision. Be sure that you have all the facts to make an informed choice. It’s up to you to ask questions so that you can decide which plastic surgeon is right for you. Qualified surgeons will welcome your questions about their background and be willing to provide you with any necessary information.
Here are a few guidelines to assist you in selecting a qualified plastic surgeon:
Check into the surgical experience of the surgeon you’re considering. Does he or she specialize in the procedures you’re interested in? How many procedures of this kind has the doctor done? Ask your doctor about his or her credentials. If you’re in doubt about a surgeon’s qualification and experience, it may be wise to seek consultation with other surgeons.

Do you use the latest techniques?
Yes. RTH is continually researching and incorporating the most advanced techniques such as:
Endoscopic Surgery Techniques: By using special instruments, the approach can allow for smaller incisions, quicker recovery, and fewer side effects. In general, minimally invasive surgery uses an endoscope. This is a long, flexible tube with a camera and light attached. It is inserted into the body through a small incision. The image is sent to a screen that the surgeon watches during the operation. The surgeon also makes other small incisions to insert whatever tools are necessary to do the procedure. Minimally invasive techniques reduce the risk of infection and allow faster recovery. Experts agree that for many common operations, minimally invasive techniques are as good or better than traditional procedures. For some procedures endoscopic techniques have become the new standard.
Vaser and Ultrasonic Liposuction: Liposuction is one of the newest procedures and is now the most popular form of cosmetic surgery. This procedure permanently removes excess fat cells which have become localized in specific areas such as the thighs, buttocks, knees, calves, abdomen, and waist. Liposuction is most effective on areas where diet and exercise don’t seem to work. It is a technique that was first started in France approximately twenty years ago. Since its initial development, it has evolved to include liposculpture, the latest tumescent technique, and an even newer technique called ultrasonic liposuction. Ultrasonic liposuction is a technique that allows easier removal of unwanted fat cells over traditional liposuction techniques. The technique decreases bruising, decreases the amount of recovery time, improves the overall contour of the treated area of the body.
Short-Scar Face Lift: There are many alternative techniques to reposition and tighten the skin and soft tissue structures of the face. One of the most significant recent developments in facial aesthetic surgery is the ability to limit the scarring that accompanies rejuvenation. These procedures are known by various names such as the "short-scar facelift”. Short scar face lift is a great alternative for people who want the benefits of a traditional face lift but with less recovery time and scarring. The results of the short scar facelift are excellent, natural looking and comparable to results from a full facelift, but far more cost effective. The technique is a significant advancement over the conventional face lift as it involves relatively little undermining and consequently affords a quicker recovery. The Short Scar Facelift may be extended to improve the mid face and malar (cheek) area where other facelift techniques fall short. It is particularly effective for the younger patient with a sagging mid face, who wants to stay ahead of the aging process.
Both FDA Approved Silicone and Saline Breast Implants: At RTH we offer both FDA approved silicone and saline implants so you can choose with your doctor what is right for your body. All breast implants used by RTH has been approved by the FDA and are of the highest quality.
