Face
Lift (Rhytidectomy)
CONSIDERATIONS / PREPARATION / PROCEDURE / RECOVERY / RESULTS
Aging often results in a loss of muscle tone and excess skin on
the face and neck. A face lift can help reverse the effects of aging
on your appearance by removing lines, wrinkles and excess skin,
helping you regain a naturally youthful appearance. A face lift provides
an overall lift to the lower third of your face by tightening loose
skin in the checks, neck and jaw line.
| Consultation |
 |
The RTH Plastic Surgery cosmetic consultation is an important step
in the process of considering aesthetic surgery. Dr. Hajjar and the RTH staff are committed to helping you become well informed
about the actual process of preparing for your face lift. Please
feel free to ask any questions and to let us know how we can help
you throughout the process.
An RTH physician will spend time with you discussing your wishes
and desires. He will examine you and give you his professional opinion
about how to best achieve your goals. Your doctor will work with
you to determine whether you are a good candidate for a short scar
face lift or a full face lift. Other services may be recommended
in combination with this service to be sure that you have an optimum
surgical result and a wonderful surgical experience.
| Considerations |
 |
Your candidacy for this procedure is determined during the consultation
phase. Your doctor will help you to decide whether you are a good
candidate for a short scar face lift or a full face lift. He will
take into consideration your specific needs, your age, health and
various other factors. This procedure is commonly elected by both
men and women between the ages of 30 and 70 years old.
| Preparation |
 |
Schedule your appointment at your own convenience.
Before your Procedure
3 weeks prior to and 3 weeks after your surgery try to limit your
alcohol and tobacco intake. 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks after
your surgery do not take medication that may thin your blood
such as Aspirin or Ibuprofen products.
The Evening Before Your Procedure
The evening prior to your surgery please refrain from eating or
drinking anything including water. Please do not smoke and check
with your RTH physician regarding any medication that you are taking
regularly.
The Day of Your Procedure
Please refrain from wearing makeup, contact lenses, hairpins, jewelry,
body lotion or perfume. Wear comfortable clothing. If you develop
a cold, sore throat, fever or any symptoms of illness before
your surgery, notify the RTH office.
Please prepare to have a responsible adult available to provide transportation
after your procedure and have arrangements made for any necessary
assistance you may require for the following 24 hours. If you are
a minor a parent or guardian must accompany you.
| Procedure |
 |
Before your procedure your RTH physician will answer any questions
that may have arose since the initial consultation and you will
have an opportunity to meet any additional staff members involved.
The RTH staff will do everything to make you feel as comfortable
as possible and will be available to address any concerns that
you may have.
Available Options
There are two types of face lift options available. Your RTH physician
will help you to decide whether you are a good candidate for
a short scar face lift or a full face lift. A short scar face
lift is done using advanced, minimally invasive techniques and
tends to be a quicker procedure than a full face lift. This results
in a shorter recovery time and smaller incision scars.
The face lift procedure can take up to 2 to 4 hours depending
on the type of procedure. When you are ready for your procedure
you will be brought into our state-of-the-art, certified surgical
suite and comfortably put to sleep using general anesthesia.
| Recovery |
 |
Just as everyone is an individual, everyone recovers differently.
Generally patients can expect to feel comfortable in about a week
after their procedure. Your RTH physician will recommend no heavy
lifting and to avoid direct sun light for a couple of weeks. A couple
weeks after surgery you will be able to resume normal activities.
A couple days after your surgery your RTH doctor will follow-up
with you to see how you're healing, answer any questions and if necessary
prescribe medication.
| Results |
 |
While results may vary, typically patients enjoy a reverse of the
effects of aging of the face and neck. Most patients see a removal
of lines, wrinkles and excess skin, helping them regain a naturally
youthful appearance. Overall the result is a lift of the lower third
of the face and a tightening of loose skin in the checks, neck and
jaw line. In general younger patients enjoy longer-lasting results.
If you are in your forties, the results may last up to 10 years.
If you are in your sixties, your results may last 5 to 7 years.
Your RTH Physician may recommend complimentary services to maximize
your desired result. These include a brow
lift, neck
lift, eyelid surgery, nasal
surgery and facial implants.
