Breast
Reduction (Mammoplasty)
CONSIDERATIONS / PREPARATION / PROCEDURE / RECOVERY / RESULTS
In some cases, women find their large breasts to be a source
of discomfort, restriction and even pain. Large, heavy breasts can
restrict your activities and lead to serious posture problems and chronic
lower back pain. This can sometimes be combined with neck and shoulder
pain leading to shoulder strap furrows, hand numbness and breathing
difficulty.
By reducing breast weight and size, you will be able to enjoy activities that you may have never tried before, and you will potentially save yourself from back problems while enhancing the shape and size of your breasts.
RTH also offers male breast reduction for men sufferring from (gynecomastia)
male breast enlargement. This procedure is commonly performed on post-barriatric
patients who have lost a significant amount of weight to help
provide a more pleasing body contour and shape after surgery.
| Consultation |
 |
The RTH Plastic Surgery cosmetic consultation is an important step in the process of considering aesthetic surgery. Dr. Hajjar and the RTH staff are committed to helping you become well informed about the actual process of preparing for a breast reduction. Breast enhancement is a very private matter. Feel free to ask any questions and to let us know how we can help you throughout the process.
An RTH Physician will spend time with you discussing your wishes and desires. He will examine you and give you his professional opinion about how to best achieve your goals. Often a breast reduction will be combined with liposuction to contour the breast and reshape the breast area under the shoulder. Your RTH doctor will work with you to determine whether you are a good candidate for breast reduction and liposuction. Other services may be recommended in combination with this service to be sure that you have an optimum surgical result and a wonderful surgical experience.
| Considerations |
 |
Your candidacy for this procedure is determined during the consultation phase. Your RTH doctor will help you to decide whether you are a good candidate for a breast reduction. He will take into consideration your specific needs, your age, health and various other factors. This procedure is elected by both men and women of all ages.
If you are considering having children you should discuss this with your RTH physician during your consultation.
| Preparation |
 |
Schedule your appointment at your own convenience.
Before your Procedure
3 weeks prior to and 3 weeks after your surgery try to limit your
alcohol and tobacco intake. 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks after
your surgery do not take medication that may thin your blood

drinking anything including water. Please do not smoke and check
with your RTH physician regarding any medication that you are taking
regularly.
The Day of Your Procedure
Please refrain from wearing makeup, contact lenses, hairpins, jewelry,
body lotion or perfume. Wear comfortable clothing. If you develop
a cold, sore throat, fever or any symptoms of illness before
your surgery, notify the RTH office.
Please prepare to have a responsible adult available to provide transportation
after your procedure and have arrangements made for any necessary

Before your procedure your RTH physician will answer any questions that may have arose since the initial consultation and you will have an opportunity to meet any additional staff members involved. The RTH staff will do everything to make you feel as comfortable as possible and will be available to address any concerns that you may have.
A breast reduction procedure can take between 2 to 5 hours depending on the complexity of the procedure. When you are ready for your procedure you will be brought into our state-of-the-art, certified surgical suite and comfortably put to sleep using general anesthesia.
A short scar breast reduction procedure is a minimally invasive technique that allows for virtually undetectable scarring and a quicker recovery. Speak with your RTH physician to see if you are a good candidate for this advanced technique.
| Recovery |
 |
Just as everyone is an individual, everyone recovers differently. Avoiding strenuous activity and sleeping on your back is recommended for one to two weeks following surgery. Most patients are back to work within two weeks.
A couple days after your surgery your RTH doctor will follow-up with you to see how you're healing, answer any questions and if necessary prescribe medication.
| Results |
 |
While results may vary, typically patients enjoy smaller, firmer, more comfortable breasts that are in a better position relative to the figure. A breast reduction can make a dramatic change in not only your appearance but also your outlook on life. Many patients find new enjoyment in sports, exercise, dancing, and many other physical activities.
Your RTH Physician may recommend complimentary services to maximize
your desired result. These include a breast
augmentation, breast lift, breast construction, tummy tuck and liposuction.
